The 2009-2010 season has begun in many northern US states. It's looking like a great ice boating season is upon us. However, we've alreay experienced our first accident of the season. Below you may find the most recent ice boating news, one of which was the loss of Mark McCellan. Most of the information at this point, from what I've gathered, poor visibility my have caused the issue of missing marked hazards. Our prayers go out to Mark’s family.
While writing about this story, another tragedy has been reported in Monona, Wis. (the man’s name has not been released.) There is no doubt that iceboating is an extreme winter sport, as we are reminded each year. Safety equipment is by far a must have, but one that is often over looked is the importance of the buddy system. If you're an ice boater, go with a friend. It's always more enjoyable sharing the fun and excitement of this sport. You may even save your firend's life or he your's.
Skimmer45.com will be going through some modifications coming in the following months, so check back often.
